Chemainus is home
to Canada's largest permanent outdoor gallery.
|
In 1983, after operating
for 120 years, the Chemainus lumbermill closed.
Almost 700 people became unemployed in a community of just under
4,000 people. Residents rallied to beautify the downtown core, and
promote the town...Today, there are 33 murals painted on the downtown
business walls...Chemainus is now known world-wide as the world's
largest outdoor art gallery and draws approximately 400,000 visitors
annually. |
