55 KM GALLOPING GOOSE REGIONAL TRAIL

The Galloping Goose Regional Trail stretches from Sooke to Victoria where it joins with the Lochside Regional Trail. Along the way it passes by Thetis Lake, through Matheson Lake, Roche Cove, hugs the Sooke basin shoreline and skirts the Sooke Potholes just southeast of Sooke.

Formerly a railway line, this wide sunny 55 km Regional Trail, travels through urban, rural and wilderness scenery.

Island highway overpass and the Lochside Regional Trail connection at the 4 km mark, Galloping Goose Regional Trail.

The Lochside Regional Trail

Thetis Lake Regional Park can also be reached from Victoria via the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Access can be found at the Six Mile Road overpass, approx a 40 min ride from downtown Victoria.

Matheson Lake via the Galloping Goose Regional Trail

One of the most enjoyable sections of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail this 5km section of the Goose offers access to both swimming and hiking trails along the way. Parking can be found at 30km mark off of Rocky Point Road or Roche Cove at the 35km mark off Gillespie Road.


Sooke basin at the trails 39km mark. Here you'll find outdoor kayaking and boat rentals as well as a restaurant/pub.

Sooke Potholes via the Galloping Goose Regional Trail

Sooke Potholes can be reached by parking at the Galloping Goose Regional Trail access, approx. 3 km before the park and a short enjoyable 40 minute walk.

From parking to potholes approx. 2.5 km crossing two Trestles along the way, Charters Creek and Todd Creek Trestles.

Leech Town & Trails End. This is a great ride to the Trails End and the remains of Leech Town at the 55 km mark. Scenic waterfalls and access to large clear pools along the way. Enjoy a swim on a hot summers dayaway from the main park or find yourself a nice quite fishing hole.Great ride on the way back as it's all a downward grade...Yahooo

Trail is wide and well maintained, approximately a 6 km ride from the Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. 55 km post marks the end of Galloping Goose Regional Trail, to the side of the the trail you will find what remains of Leech town.
